Jocelyn JiYoon Kim, Piano B.Mus., M.Mus.

Korean-born Canadian pianist Jocelyn Jiyoon Kim began taking piano lessons at the age of four, and her passion for music has never stopped since then. At the University of British Columbia's School of Music, JiYoon Kim has studied with Professor Rena Sharon, and she received her Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in Piano Performance under the guidance of Dr. Terence Dawson in 2014. And in 2019, a Master's graduate under the tutelage of Professor Mark Anderson. Also, JiYoon’s musical studies include long-term work with Michelle Mares. Throughout her studies at UBC, her academic and performance excellence earned her many scholarships. She has also won many provincial and national competitions; most recently, she was a finalist at the Vancouver International Piano Competition. 

Jiyoon is an active solo and a collaborative performer in recitals. She has also performed in masterclasses given by world renowned pianists Alessio Bax, Paul Lewis, and Stephen Hough. Outside of the educational institutions, she has spent her summer working with distinguished pedagogues, James Giles and John Perry as a participant at the Piano Masterclass program in Gijon International Piano Festival in Spain and at Orford Music Festival in Quebec.

Central to Jiyoon's career is her long-standing relationship as an accompanist with church choirs and choral groups, such as the Pilgrim's Choir and Vancouver Choir.

Jiyoon teaches piano and theory from her private studio in Coquitlam, B.C. She has been teaching classical piano and theory for over 10 years.
